In my last blog I touched on the subject of secrecy, lying and trust. Judging from the reaction I received from all quarters about it, it seems to have touched a nerve in many ways. Friends who have been lied to themselves said it really summed up how they felt about their friends and partners, and in a way that satisfied me. Not necessarily because other people have suffered at other people's lies too, but because it means that what I said actually reached someone, or even multiple people. I wouldn't say I've been particularly respected by many people other than the Macquarie University Cricket Club players during my two seasons there, especially the year I was Captain. So to hear people not only take notice of what I've said, but to agree with it is very humbling. I do see myself as a leader but in order to lead you have to have the respect of your followers and be a big enough character to actually lead. Stress, Pressure and a Rude Umpire.

I write this at the end of what has not been a fantastic week. I had hoped that since our fantastic holiday in Ireland in my previous entry that we would have an enjoyable August but sadly not. Unfortunately the cricket  has not been going well and we have just lost 3 in a row to Sidmouth, Torquay and Exmouth. From being top of the table we are now 3rd and with just 2 games left the prospect of winning the Premier Division in my last season at Bovey Tracey Cricket Club is slipping from our grasp. BUT... it's not over yet and we still have the Devon Senior Cup Final to play in. Away from cricket I found myself being demoralised by several things. The thing is that when I feel down, I feel REALLY down. It's when you feel like that things just seem to pile up but when you look back things probably weren't as bad as you thought at the time. My Responsibility To My Family History

Already copying Grandad's crossword habit! Last week I had my grandparents visiting from Cheshire. Every time I see them it reminds me of my childhood and to me it feels like they are exactly the same now as they were when I was five. They probably have changed but it doesn't feel like it and because they have always lived some distance from me it feels special every time I see them. Sounds corny, doesn't it? I envy people who have lived in the same house or town their whole lives, but at the same time I'm glad I haven't. It's not like I haven't had stability. I don't remember my two years in Germany, the eight years I spent in Oxfordshire seemed a long time to a 10 year old and I have lived in Bovey Tracey for the last 16 years. We moved here in 1996 so I class myself as Devonian.
